The protocol prosthesis is the most advanced solution for rehabilitating patients who have lost all their teeth, whether from the upper or lower jaw.
This type of prosthesis is anchored with 4 to 8 dental implants, over which a prosthesis is attached, resembling a conventional denture but much more aesthetic, comfortable, and secure.
Thus, patients who wear conventional dentures and do not adapt well to them, either due to aesthetic concerns or difficulty in eating harder foods, can now enjoy another option: the protocol prosthesis.
Can anyone get the protocol prosthesis?
While any prosthesis can be recommended for patients who have lost their teeth, for this specific model of prosthesis, an imaging exam called a tomography is required.
Through this exam, it’s possible to assess the amount of bone the patient has and determine if it’s sufficient for implant installation. After this assessment, the procedure is planned, indicating how many implants will be needed.
If the amount of bone is insufficient, the patient must first undergo bone grafts. Only after this procedure the implants and protocol prosthesis are installed.
While awaiting the healing period, a temporary prosthesis is placed.

In cases of complete tooth loss, it’s common for the dentist to seek references for reconstructing teeth that match in size, shape, and color to natural teeth.
With the mold in hand, the dentist will craft the artificial teeth, which can be made from materials like acrylic, resins, or even specialized plastics.
